Lucy Boston was born in England in 1892, and lived to be 98 years old. She designed and made at least twenty amazing patchworks in her long life, but she is more famous as the author of the Green Knowe children's books, for her ancient manor house and garden near Cambridge in England, and for her long, creative old age. Lucy Boston published her first books when she was in her sixties, and she continued to write, sew, and garden when she was in her nineties. She was an extraordinary person, and still inspires affection and admiration today.
My pattern book for The Patchwork of the Crosses (POTC) was prepared with the gracious assistance of Diana Boston (Lucy Boston's daughter-in-law), and is illustrated with photographs by Julia Hedgecoe.

Lucy Boston sewed all of her quilts with the method known as English Paper Piecing, but Inklingo makes her designs faster and easier to achieve with a running stitch by hand, or by machine. Many of them are available in Inklingo collections (scroll down). Click on the covers below for more information about each book and download, and please be sure to see the entries related to Lucy Boston on the All About Inklingo blog. I am delighted to offer Diana Boston's beautiful book about all of Lucy Boston's Patchworks too. This reprint of the 1995 edition is a classic, and belongs in the library of every quilter.
